Using Best Practices

To help you obtain the most successful installation and update for your firm, we suggest the following best practices:

  • Ensure your workstation is powered on and the Sleep and Hibernate functions have been disabled.
  • Complete any workstation reboot prompts received from other product updates, such as Windows.
  • If you are working in a proxy environment and you do not have Microsoft .NET 4.0 installed on your computer, add the .NET 4.0 download site (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=17851) as a trusted site before installing any products.

  • Ensure that an authorized user is signed into the workstation.
  • Ensure that User Account Control (UAC) settings are either turned off or set to the lowest setting available. These settings can be found in the Windows Control Panel.
  • Verify that Install and Update Manager services are running.
  • Verify that Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word applications are closed and not running in the background.
  • Verify that CCH Axcess applications are closed and not running in the background (with the exception of Install and Update Manager services).

Notes:

  • If maintenance of the CCH servers is scheduled soon, when you attempt to log in you will receive a message stating when the servers will be available again.
  • If maintenance of the CCH servers is currently in progress when you attempt to open Install and Update Manager, you will receive a message stating that server maintenance is taking place. Also, Install and Update Manager cannot automatically check for updates when CCH server maintenance is taking place.
